Happy birthday Prominent! Helen’s top 10 in 10

Prom 10th birthday Helen 1200 x 800

As part of Prominent’s 10th birthday celebrations, Managing Director Helen Rudd has taken a look back over the decade and picked out her top 10 prominent moments.

Looking back over the years and trying to pick out just 10 of my favourite moments was incredibly hard. There are so many I have missed out – I easily could have picked 20! But I was under strict instructions to stick to 10. So here goes!

In no particular order…

1. CIPR PRide Awards – low budget campaign of the year – 2015

PRIDE 2015

Winning our first ever CIPR PRide award in 2015 is a moment I won’t ever forget. Coming in just our second year as a business, it cemented our place on the local PR landscape with a bang and gave us real credibility.

The campaign itself was a real cracker and we thoroughly deserved the gong. It was for our client Inform Direct and it saw us generate more than 300 pieces of press coverage in just a three month period.

The team were joined by Inform Direct CEO Henry Catchpole to collect the award, which really added to the evening.

Prominent PR were the only Suffolk PR agency to pick up a Gold award that year!

2. CIPR PRide Awards – small agency of the year – 2017

Pride 2017

On the subject of awards, this is the one that has meant the most to me so far.

To be named the best small agency in the region in our fourth year in business was an incredible achievement.

We ended up winning four awards that night – even though we almost didn’t make it there due to a pile up on the A14!

We celebrated the next day with pizza and cake and it meant the world. What a night it was!

You can read more about that momentous night here.

3. The CPCA Mayoral election – 2017

As far as career moments go, this one was really up there for me.

For the agency it was a project which demonstrated what we were good at, and it was such a huge success.

This was the first ever mayoral election for what would become the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority – a hugely significant moment for our region and one I’ll always look back on as a key moment in Prominent’s history.

The buzz of running a press office for any election is always fun, but this example is one I will always look back on fondly.

4. Acquiring RB Agency – 2018

Prom Media

I’d go so far as saying acquiring RB Agency has been one of the best business decisions I’ve ever made.

Newcomers to Prominent might not know that we bought out the renowned regional media buying and advertising agency back in 2018, marking a historic moment in the story of our business.

Not only did we get a fantastic business with a great reputation and a long client list, best of all we took on some incredible employees who have made Prominent the company it is today.

We have since launched Prominent Media, a sister company of Prominent PR – and 2024 is going to see this brand revitalised and really brought alive.

5. Moving to Gulpher Business Park – 2018

Adam and Olly

The offices we acquired as part of purchasing RB Agency are just stunning.

We did a thorough decorating job, spring clean and purchased new sleek white desks which really brightened up the lovely open plan space.

But that’s not the best bit.

We are in a gorgeous spot in the countryside, complete with a peacock called Graham and stunning views across the fields.

Quite often we have meetings in the garden when it’s sunny and there’s plenty of walks for a lunchtime stroll – which are great for the wellbeing of the team. We feel very lucky to be here!

6. Captain Tom - 2020

Captain Tom

In the middle of the bleakness which was Covid was one shining light – Captain Sir Tom Moore. And we were incredibly honoured to provide PR support, in conjunction with our client Bedford School, for his 100th birthday celebrations.

We managed the media relations surrounding the day and were thrilled that we received over 2,000 regional, national and international media clippings for the story.

We absolutely loved working on the Captain Tom 100 campaign and you can read more about it here.

7. Hey Girls - 2022

Hey Girls

Working with Hey Girls is something that our entire team are incredibly proud of. They are making a difference in the world and we really enjoy spreading the message about what they do.

We feel like a part of their team and have a super working relationship with them. Winning a prestigious PR award for our work with them last year is testimony to that.

We are also proud that as an employer we now also stock Hey Girls products in our loos for the team to use as and when they are needed. Improving period dignity and combatting period poverty are things we have become hugely passionate about and it’s all thanks to Hey Girls!

8. Winning Woodforde’s Brewery - 2023

Woodfordes and Prom

In terms of company milestones, this is another real biggie. We first made contact with Woodforde’s in summer 2022 before having three meetings and making an official pitch – getting the go ahead to begin work in March 2023.

This is by far the biggest client we have ever had in our portfolio and we are thoroughly enjoying working with them.

Having the opportunity to help grow an already prestigious brand further is something we absolutely love.

Our first year was an incredibly exciting one – including supporting the team at the Norfolk Show – and 2024 is shaping up to be another corker.

9. Prominent rebrand – January 2022

January 2022 saw us move out with the old and in with the new with our fabulous rebrand.

It was a complete overhaul with a new logo, strapline and colour scheme across our digital assets and collateral. And one we really love.

The entire process was a real team effort and has taken our business up to a new level. It was an incredibly proud moment for me.

The brand has continued to evolve over the two years but has really helped cement our place on the East Anglian PR scene.

10. Ladies in Property Suffolk - 2015

LIPS

The first ever Ladies in Property Suffolk (LiPS) event took place in early 2015 – the brainchild of the lovely Jac Cumiskey, myself and Nadine Coleman.

We wanted a networking group for women in the built environment sector, and the support we received from the start was just staggering.

Attending the first one was a proud moment, as was seeing my team represent Prominent at the 13th event recently.

Attendee numbers are still high and feedback is so positive. It’s a highlight of our year!

What next?

One of the best things about working in PR is that you never know what exciting developments are around the corner.

I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve achieved in the last 10 years and can’t wait to see what’s next for our business.

So, as we kick off the birthday celebrations, I’d like to give a huge thanks to everyone who has supported us on our journey so far – staff, clients, partners, supporters. We wouldn’t be where we are without you!
